  • Developed in the 1990s in Western Australia;
  • Desire to improve child protection work by incorporating ideas from solution focused brief therapy techniques used by counsellors and therapists;
  • Signs of Safety aims to work collaboratively and in partnership with families and children;
  • Focusing on strengths, resources and networks that the family have;
  • Establishing constructive working relationships and partnerships between professionals and family members, and between professionals themselves is at the heart of the model;
  • Working in this way with families is considered crucial so that responsibility to solve problems is a shared responsibility.
